The winter weather can be particularly hard on the critters in our neighborhood. Consider the birds, the squirrels and all the other little guys who would enjoy something from your kitchen. Just remember... one man's garbage is another critter's treasure!
How can I help the critter's in my neighborhood?
Bird seed is wonderful-- for both the birds and the squirrels. They will get a kick (and a full belly) from the feeders you have up in your yard.
Still, you don't have to go out and purchase food for the birds-- that's for the birds!
Save the little wooden box that clementines come in this season, or pick up a small wooden craft box at PatCatan's (maybe a dollar).
Take any extra apple peals, pieces of oranges or bread crumbs and put it in the clementine or wooden box, the critters will appreciate the feast!
Bits and pieces that are not eaten in a day or two can be added to your compost. Soon you will be able to recognize your neighborhood critters and their favorite 'leftovers'!
Watch out for neighborhood cats! Ours just caught a bird at our feeder this weekend! EEK!
