Akron seems to be experiencing a bit of a heat wave this week -- the snow on the trees in the front yard has nearly disappeared and the roads haven't been covered in that white stuff for a few days, now! Wow!
All of this 'warm weather' has me thinking of the season ahead, but I am cautious not to overlook where we are at the moment.
January has a reputation for being the longest, grey-est, dreariest month of the Ohio winter, and I certainly understand why. On the flip side, however, January has some wonderful qualities that don't always hit the radar.
Already in 2011, January has become the birth month for a number of wonderful small people! Welcome to the world little ones!!
Further, there is an element of 'new growth' in my plans for our up-and-coming herb garden. That's right! I am eager to share with you all that this 2011 growing season, the Rubber City Homestead is going to actually begin to grow herbs in their own special garden-- allowing for more room in the general purpose growing area. Yes!
There is a bit of planning and an ounce of swaggling going into this design plan, but I am thrilled at the prospect! January allows us to prepare. As winter's biting gails nip at our backs each time we step out doors, we are reminded of all the work that can be accomplished from our comfy, cozy, WARM in-door places.
Some of you may have been eagerly awaiting the most recent update to the shed building, and I now have that to share with you, as well. While weather has prevented some of the progress we were hoping to have made at this point, we have managed to piece away at our efforts whenever the temperature rises above freezing.
Brace yourself because there are some fun days ahead!
Warm wishes--
The Rubber City Homestead
