Smoothie-Sicles!

Let's be honest.

This Ohio weather has been off-the-hook!

It went from an intense, snow-filled winter ** to tons of rain ** and finally knocked us out with scorching heat!

WOW!

Perhaps because the Gremlin is cooking in my gut, or maybe because it has been simply cookin outside, I have been craving some good old fashioned popsicles. The challenge comes after the craving, however!

Mr. RC Homestead and I head over to the grocery and I invariably have to cruise down the frozen treat aisle. After taking it all in, I leave empty handed and frustrated.

The popsicles I find are often either
1. Full of sugar water (ugh)
OR
2. Priced higher than gas per gallon has been (double ugh!)

Our most recent trip to Acme yielded a new idea!

I found these darling 'push-up' molds and figured that we could kill two birds with one stone.

  • Healthy, inexpensive, cool refreshment
  • A use for the 'surplus' smoothie blend that never seems to fit into our glasses
YAY!

Smoothie-Sicle Recipe

Supplies
  • Whatever fruit you have on hand. I used strawberries, some cantaloupe, some watermelon, grapes and a banana or two
  • Yogurt
  • Ice
  • Fruit or veggie juice
  • Cinnamon! (because it makes everything more delicious!)
  • A blender or smoothie maker
  • Popsicle molds, ice cube tray, or clean up-cycled individual yogurt cups or something else to pour the mixture into and freeze
What to Do
  • Chop the fruit or de-seed, put into blender
  • Add a scoop or two of your favorite yogurt
  • Top with ice
  • Add a splash or two of whatever fruit juice you have on hand-- this really helps the blending process!
  • Add a healthy shake of cinnamon
  • Blend
  • When you are satisfied with the consistency, pour into your molds
  • Add to freezer and wait for the majic to happen!
Enjoy!

Chop your fruit, de-seed if needed

Start filling your blender/smoothie maker

Add your favorite yogurt-- this is my ABSOLUTE FAVE!!!

Splash of a juice you enjoy--
remember that a more acidic juice will add a slight curdle quality to the yogurt.
Some folks have a hard time with this...
the longer you blend, the better the concoction!

Beautiful, ready for mixing

Ooops-- Don't forget the secret ingredient!

Mix away!

Grab your molds

Fill'er up, I scooped off any bubbles on top, as well.

Marvel at your creation for a second and pop them into the freezer...

Sip away at the remaining smoothie while you wait for your frozen treats to chill

Have a great Friday!
